Background

The request for this technical assistance emanated from the conduct of ROSC Accounting and Auditing review exercise in February 2010.  Since the problems arising from the lack of a modern regulatory framework, identified by the ROSC Accounting and Auditing team, need urgent attention, the Government decided to approach the FIRST Initiative in view of the fact that this program was created for supporting FSAP and ROSC follow-up activities.

Project

GOAL: The main objective of the proposed technical assistance is the development of a modern statutory framework in line with international good practices. These activities are expected to make significant contributions to the enhancement of the quality of corporate financial reporting in The Gambia. The project aims at developing a statutory framework focusing on the accountancy profession, accounting and auditing standard setting, and monitoring and enforcement arrangements.

OUPUT: This project will provide assistance to the country authorities in drafting a modern Accountancy Profession Act.

Project LIFE TIME is 8 months, starting in May 2010

Project BUDGET is $62,000
